How do you keep your refrigerator clean and organized?
Our refrigerators can easily become a place of chaos, between the deposits of dirt due to the vegetables, the spots of vinaigrette or traces of sauce in any kind, the maintenance and the arrangement of the refrigerator can become a real chore.
It is important to keep this environment clean as we store our food in it, the key word here is conservation. The following tips are applicable throughout the house. It is better to take the time to organize everything, to allow a more efficient and faster maintenance. This is why we talk about taking time and not wasting time.
By implementing this type of strategy, you will save valuable time. Although for some people cleaning is a real pleasure, there is no harm in cutting the cleaning session short in favor of another activity or to spend time with our loved ones.
As a reminder, the refrigerator must be cleaned once a month.
Where do we start?
We empty our refrigerator for a big cleaning, with ecological products imperatively. As a reminder, you are going to consume these foods, therefore we avoid poisoning ourselves with chemical detergents. So what do we use? The winning trio of course, baking soda, white vinegar and lemon, and water of course but we will not formalize for this last one which can seem more than obvious.
For our magic potion:
In a spray bottle (13fl oz) pour 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda then add the white vinegar (be careful this last one will foam in contact with the bicarbonate) and the water in equal proportion to finish adding with the juice of half a lemon.
For the record, lemon isn't just there for the smell, but also for its anti-bacterial properties. You can also add essential oils such as tea tree, which has a very broad disinfectant spectrum.
Now that you have a formidable weapon with a vegetable or microfiber sponge and a little elbow grease your fridge is ready to shine. You can use the mixture to clean the possible drips of sauces on their containers this last one being inoffensive on your health.
What is the next step?
We sort, organize and store!
Sorting is essential before you can put anything away. Check the expiration dates, rotten food goes to the composter etc...
The organization is a crucial step, the refrigerators have a difference of temperature according to the floors. Depending on the brand or model of your refrigerator, the cold zones are not in the same place, do not hesitate to consult the instructions.
You have the cold zone where you should store raw products (meat, fish, sushi ...) and dairy products. A little extra, brush your meat with vegetable oil for a better preservation.
The fresh zone is where you can put your cooked food, that is to say all the leftovers of your meals or pre-cooked food that you buy as well as pastries.
The bins are for ripe and delicate fruits and vegetables. A little advice: separate the fruits on one side and the vegetables on the other. Take the time to wash your vegetables with a vegetable brush if necessary.
The tempered zone is located in the door of your fridge. Ideal for condiments, sauces, opened jam jars, open drinks and sometimes even some of your cosmetics.
Now that you know where to store your food, simply store it in glass containers or bins. Don't keep the original packaging (cardboard, plastic...) as they are full of germs. And anyway you have become green, you only buy bulk now!
It's up to you!
