Konjac

Konjac root or devil's tongue has been consumed and used in Japan for over 2000 years as well as in other Asian countries.
And yes it can be eaten!

With only 3 calories per 100gr and very little carbohydrate (perfect for a ketogenic diet by the way), it is also very satiating. But these are not its only assets

Konjac is prized for its exfoliating and 100% natural virtues: Konjac sponges allow a cleaning adapted to all types of skin on a daily basis.
Konjac is also used in traditional Asian medicine for several years for its beneficial properties on asthma, cough, burns, and on the digestive plan it is hypoglycemic and detoxifying.

How to taste it?

Most of the time Konjac is sold in the form of noodles or rice but it also exists in the form of jelly a bit like tofu. For the more delicate palates, you will probably be reassured by the fact that Konjac has a relatively neutral taste. This is another of its assets since it can be associated with many flavors.
Test it in dishes in sauce or wok, it will play a marvelous role in your recipes.
It is 100% gluten-free, which is an additional positive point since it can be adapted to any type of diet (vegan, vegetarian, lactose-free, low GI flexitarian ...)

A little more, several studies have been conducted to demonstrate its effectiveness against diabetes and cancer thanks to its properties of regulation of the intestinal transit and the reduction of the sugar level in the blood.

And in cosmetics? The Konjac sponge

At first the Konjac sponge was mainly used for babies, because it is softer than the sea sponge. The sponge swells in contact with water, which allows it to soften.
On a daily basis, simply moisten the sponge with warm or hot water and add a small amount of your soap, then proceed to clean your skin with small circular motions. This little ritual will gently exfoliate your skin, even if you suffer from eczema or psoriasis.

The konjac sponge is available for all skin types, some are enriched with clay, vegetable charcoal, matcha tea, soap nuts, it's up to you to see which one suits you best.

The konjac sponge can be kept for about 3 months if used daily.
It is essential to clean it with hot water after each use and once a week to wash it with Marseille soap or simply plunge it in boiling water.
It is often sold with a small cord to hang it up so that it can dry more healthily.

If you don't use it every day, keep it in the fridge so that it doesn't dry out completely. As soon as it starts to crumble, it's time to say goodbye!

Its price remains affordable, starting at 3 euros for a face care format. It is more and more widespread, some supermarkets sell it.

Whether it's for tasting or beauty, konjac is our ally!
